Great news for Nonna Tata fans! There are plans for Nonna Tata to add an enclosed patio to it’s existing space – hopefully that means more seating. According to the Star T. expansion plans also include another restaurant, Tata Too.
The new space will occupy the former Bluebird Blues Club at Horne and Wellesley on the Westside. There’s a small stone structure next to the building that will serve as an auxillary kitchen, and pasta making central for both restaurants.
Fort Worth is fortunate to have it’s own Italian grandmother in Nonna Tata. She will take you in and feed you splendid Italian food without a meatball or a marinara in sight. No, no, your Nonna will only feed you the freshest flavors of Italy.
While beautiful owner Donatella Trotti is far from being a grandmother she provides an intimate homestyle Italian experience in her cozy restaurant. The former fashion power player for Versace traded her stilletos for stockpots in 2006 and opened Nonna Tata.
Most foodies of Fort Worth are frequent visitors to Nonna Tata. If you haven’t been, here’s the lowdown: Nonna Tata is only open from Tuesday through Friday, lunch and dinner. Cash only and BYOB, which really cuts down the cost of dinner when you don’t have to pay a marked up price on wine.
There are only seats for 21 on the inside and a few tables outside. So most likely you will wait, the waitress takes your cell phone number and call when your table is ready. On my last visit, while waiting we went to the Wells Fargo ATM and then parked and enjoyed some pre-dinner wine in the car until our spot was ready. The menu changes but it is basically classic or homestyle Italian food and it’s darned divine.
Sure, sometimes you wait but when you pull up a chair in the small dining room, you know by the smells coming from the kitchen that it’s been well worth the wait. So, if you haven’t been to visit you’re Nonna in a while, go see her and “eat, eat, you’re too skinny!”.

Me and my woman ate there this past Friday. As the article says, the food is very fresh and tasty. The homemade pasta dishes were great. There were two issues that, sadly, dominated the evening. I am certain they did not salt the water that the pasta was boiled in. This blew mt mind. The subtle flavors of the dish were great, but to have this beautiful, homemade pasta NOT salted almost ruined the dishes. I guess next time i will have to request a salted pasta.
The other issue was the service. For a place that is so confined we were pretty much ignored most of the night. We got our water glasses refilled for the first time after we got the check. And my dinner plate sat, empty, in front of me for 10 minutes. I went ahead and placed it on the counter next to me. And we did not get any question about how our meal was.
Anyway, we’ll go again to give it another shot, if for no other reason there is no other place like it in town. Hope we get these issues addressed next time.
We ate last night a wonderful meal and enjoyed every bite. We are going to become regulars. The Apple pear cake was the best dessert I have had in years. Relaxing dinner, Nona stopped by and chatted. Very good food for the right price. Can’t wait for the next visit. Gail & Lou
