Weekend Happenings: May 1-3

by Josie on May 1, 2009

Friday May 1
First Fridays at The Modern 5PM -8PM
Enjoy a May Day cocktail or sip some wine as you enjoy the Steve Story Trio.  Check out what looks to be an uber cool Focus exhibit by local gal (ok well a Plano gal) Rosson Crow.  Her large scale interior paintings look dramatic and provocative. Unfortunately, the painting depicting Cowtown’s own White Elephant Saloon is somewhere in Paris.  Have dinner in the retro futuristic Modern Cafe or just enjoy some coffee in the patio area.  817.840.2157 for dinner reservations.  3200 Darnell Street.

Friday May
Lola’s on Sixth
The Great Tyrant, Suicity, Garuda, 10PM, $6 cover
Old school Fort Worth music fans will not want to miss this show.  Grab some grub at Fred’s before show or La Familia if you’re craving some Tex Mex.  2736 W. Sixth Street.

Saturday May 2
Gallery 414, Artist Reception for Nod and Smile, 6PM – 9PM
The Modern Art Museum’s Teen-Artist Project featuring the work of numerous young artists in the making.  Gallery 414 is in a small house in a residential area at 414 Templeton just off 7th.

Saturday May 2
Metrognome Collective: The Firehouse Gallery, Artist Reception, 6PM – 8PM
…and so we beat on ceaselessly:  Photography from Jeff Riley.  This looks to be an interesting photography exhibit by Jeff Riley, all the prints are in Traditional Silver Gelatin prints that are layered to create a unique effect.  Nick Hennies and Sandy Ewen of the Weird Weeds will perform a few improvisational sets starting at 8pm. $5.  The Firehouse Gallery 4147 Meadowbrook.

Sunday May 3
Jazz Sunday at Ligtcatcher Winery, 4PM – 7PM, $10
Enjoy jazz tunes from Corner Pocket in a beautiful winery setting.  6925 Confederate Park Road.
