Zike Zake, Zike Zake Hoi Hoi Hoi!! Now that I have your attention, practice that chant because that’s what you’ll be exclaiming with all the fellow diners at the German restaurant Edelweiss. Tucked in a shopping center off the dreaded Weatherford traffic circle you’ll find Edelweiss just as it has been since 1967. I have to admit it’s been over 10 years since my last visit to Edelweiss and all I remembered about it was doing the “Chicken Dance”.

Luckily, Edelweiss hasn’t changed a bit. It still has the old school German chalet feel and yes, they still do the “Chicken Dance”. Our family visited this restaurant with an old friend and his family and it was lots of fun. I definitely recommend Edelweiss as a great place to take kids, especially if they are the restless type.

Edelweiss

If you can’t make it to Oktoberfest, Edelweiss is about as close as you can come to it in Fort Worth. The beer steins are huge and plentiful and if that doesn’t take you back to Germany perhaps the live music will. The band, complete with a master accordion player, will take requests and play a variety of songs.

We started our meal off with some Potato Pancakes which were popular with everyone at our table. I went with the Jaeger Schnitzel, it was quoted as “Your Favorite” in the menu. The plate had a breaded pork loin generously topped with a mushroom sauce as well as red cabbage, potatoes, and spatzle on the side. The pork was fantastic but it was breaded and covered in a delicious sauce so it was hard to go wrong with that choice.

My husband chose the combination plate which has just about everything on it – order only if you’re really hungry! Needless to say we were quite stuffed at the end of our meal or we would have ordered some of their Black Forest Cake.

Keep in mind that during the course of your meal you will be chicken dancing and cheering and toasting – perhaps even joining in on a chorus of “Happy Birthday” or “Happy Birsday” as the woman in the band so charmingly sung. This is all part of the fun so don’t be scared to get up and dance. We stopped eating to dance, our kids stopped eating to dance, a random elderly woman stopped eating to dance with our friend.

Edelweiss

Edelweiss provides Fort Worth with a kitschy good time and a different dining experience. I mean who doesn’t want to get up and dance the “YMCA” in the middle of their meal? This is one of those spots where you go for the whole experience not just the food – and you can leave your lederhosen at home (or not). Prosit!

Thanks for the review, Josie! My husband and I dined at Edelweiss last Friday evening for the first time. We really enjoyed the beer, food, and atmosphere. Our server, Robert, was fantastic. My husband also had the Jaeger Schnitzel, while I devoured Knockwurst and Bratwurst. We will definitely be back.

Really? Unless they have changed from a couple years ago…dim lighting, kinda dingy, all the food on the plate was brownish red….not memorable.
